SMALL GROUP STUDIES:
Doing Life Together
Doing Life Together® is a small group study designed for married couples of all ages, regardless how long you've been married. Designed, developed, and produced by Dewey and Lynne Wilson, Co-Founders of Marriage Mentors along with Dr. John Trent, Founding President of StrongFamilies.com, this study shows couples how to do just what the title implies, Do Life Together. First with God through a relationship with Jesus Christ, then as spouses, then finally with others. Below you will see a brief overview of the sessions contained in the study.
Session One - The "Key" to the Marriage You've Always Wanted:
This week we'll examine the paradigms we brought into our marriages - the lenses we use to view our environment. Then, realizing change most likely needs to occur in some area of our relationships, we will introduce the three components of a successful change. Lastly, we want you to leave today knowing God wil reward and bless the work you put into building a strong marriage.
Session Two - Choosing Your Plan:
In this session we will see the humorous way a couple is trying to build one house with two sets of plans. Most marriages face this very same challenge. Our different family backgrounds and our God-given strengths and differences can be grounds for incompatibility in our marriage, but God can make incompatibility grounds for a Great marriage! When we begin to understand God's role in place our spouse - with all their differences- in our home to complete us, amazing things can happen in our marriage. By choosing to work together off one set of plans, we can take huge steps toward adding life and energy to the kind of marriage we've always wanted.
Session Three - Laying the Foundation:
As you will see in the video, there is so much that goes into laying a solid foundation. A home's foundation consists of cables, piers, footings, sand, steel and cement. In the same way, we need a solid foundation for our marriage. When our marriage is built on consistent Bible study and prayer, we begin pouring a solid foundation for a positive future together.
Session Four - Frame Out, Top Out, and Rough In:
Ever wonder what's in the walls behind the sheetrock? How do water and electricity travel from one room to another? Even though the plumbing pipes and electrical wires are not visible, the home doesn't function very well without them. Using the home's frame, plumbing and electrical system, you will learn more about your identity, Biblical forgiveness and living empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Session Five - Finish Out:
In this session we hope to help you understand that overcoming large obstacles in your relationship does not mean ripping out the walls of your marriage. Indeed, when couples realize the value in consistently making small 2-degree, mid-course corrections and learn how to implement them in their lives, their marriage relationships take on a whole new meaning.
Session Six - The New Normal:
Now that you've spent five weeks building the kinds of habits you need to create the marriage you've always wanted, where do you go from here? In this session we look at how to continue valuing the differences in our spouse and what to do when struggles do come. Now that a "new normal" has been created we want to ensure that we know how to maintain and continue growing together in our marriage relationship.
UNIQUELY UNITED:
Coming Soon! This study is built around the Uniquely United personality assessment, allowing couples to truly discover the unique way that God has fashioned them together as individuals and how they can value and appreciate those differences in their marriage. Taught in a fun and informative way by Dewey and Lynne Wilson and Dr. John Trent, this study will give couples a new perspective by which they can view and value one another.
